U.S. Tobacco asks to move disclosure statement hearing to February

By Sarah Lizee

Olympia, Wash., Nov. 30 – U.S. Tobacco Cooperative Inc. asked the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Northern Carolina to move its disclosure statement hearing to the first week in February, according to a motion filed Monday.

As previously reported, the disclosure statement hearing was scheduled for Nov. 30. However, the hearing was changed to a status conference.

The company said there is mediation with the Lewis certified class scheduled for Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, and as such the disclosure statement hearing should be moved in order to allow for the parties to complete the mediation.

Raleigh, N.C.-based U.S. Tobacco is the largest tobacco cooperative in the United States. It filed bankruptcy on July 7 under Chapter 11 case number 21-01511.
