Thomas Health seeks 120-day extension of exclusive plan periods

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, May 5 – Thomas Health System, Inc. requested an extension of its exclusive periods for filing and soliciting votes on a Chapter 11 plan, according to a motion filed Tuesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.

Specifically, Thomas Health asked the court to extend its exclusive filing period by 120 days through Sept. 6 and the solicitation period through Nov. 5.

Despite the progress made to date, and resulting primarily from the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and the related impact on all aspects of the economy, the company said it needs more time to finalize and propose a confirmable Chapter 11 plan that will be in the best interests of all parties involved.

According to the motion, allowing the exclusivity periods to expire would risk disrupting the cases “in ways that could result in substantial and unnecessary costs incurred by the debtors’ estates and jeopardize the successful reorganization of these cases.”

Thomas Health is a South Charleston, W.Va.-based health care provider. It filed bankruptcy on Jan. 10 under Chapter 11 case number 20-20007.
