Former Halt Medical requests plan extension; process ‘well underway’

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Aug. 10 – HMI Liquidating Inc., formerly Halt Medical, Inc., requested an extension of its exclusive periods for filing and soliciting votes on a Chapter 11 plan, according to a motion filed Wednesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The company wants to extend its exclusive filing period through Oct. 9 from Aug. 10 and the solicitation period through Dec. 8 from Oct. 9.

Now that the sale of substantially all of its assets has closed, HMI said the next step toward its exit from Chapter 11 is an expedient plan process, and “the company’s efforts are well underway to accomplish that objective.”

The company said the proposed extension will allow the plan process to move forward without the risk of the substantial additional costs and disruption that could follow an expiration of either of the exclusive periods.

A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 30.

Brentwood, Calif.-based medical device company Halt Medical focuses on providing care for women with symptomatic uterine fibroids, including through its patented Acessa System. The company filed bankruptcy on April 12 under Chapter 11 case number 17-10810.
