Sports Authority marks $165.3 million operating loss for May period

Pittsburgh, June 28 – Sports Authority Holdings, Inc. reported a $165.3 million operating loss for the period of May 1 through May 28 on $233.7 million in net sales, according to its monthly operating report filed Tuesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

In comparison, Sports Authority posted a $469.1 million operating loss for the period of April 3 through April 30 on $183.9 million in net sales.

The net loss for the May period was $174.2 million, narrowing from a $413.6 million net loss for the April period.

The company had $160.5 million in cash and cash equivalents as of May 28, up from $42 million at the end of April.

Sports Authority, based in Englewood, Colo., is a sporting goods retailer. It filed for bankruptcy on March 2. Its Chapter 11 case number is 16-10527.
