Luxembourg Stock Exchange lists 100th green bond, EIB’s CAB

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Feb. 19 – The Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE) said it listed its 100th green bond admitted on its markets on Feb. 18.

The issue (XS1107718279) was originated by the European Investment Bank and brought EIB’s climate awareness bond (CAB) due November 2026 to €1.5 billion, according to a news release.

EIB previously issued two other green benchmarks, the €1.5 billion CAB due November 2023 and the €3 billion CAB due November 2019. These are the largest green bonds outstanding and are also listed at LuxSE.

EIB launched and listed the first green bond listed on LuxSE in 2007.

LuxSE now has 100 green bonds listed in 20 currencies by 20 issuers.

Luxembourg finance minister Pierre Gramegna, president of the European Investment Bank Dr. Werner Hoyer and chief executive officer of LuxSE Robert Scharfe marked the occasion with an event.

“The Luxembourg Stock Exchange has shown clear leadership in listing green bonds and the EIB has become the largest issuer in this market,” said Hoyer.

“Today is a very strong milestone in the current momentum the green bond market enjoys,” said Scharfe.

“The Luxembourg Stock Exchange is likely to play a pivotal role in the funding of green entrepreneurship, supporting the growing market for green bonds in Luxembourg and ensuring appropriate transparency,” Gramegna said.
