First Empire Securities now offering new issue municipal bonds

By Wendy Van Sickle

Columbus, Ohio, Nov. 12 – First Empire Securities has joined an underwriting syndicate and is now offering clients access to new issue municipal bonds, according to a press release.

Guy Spieler, a municipal bond trader formerly of Lehman Brothers and Incapital, has joined the firm to lead its municipal bond underwriting business. He has more than 25 years of experience in the municipal bond sector and has worked extensively in the new issue market. Spieler will work alongside First Empire’s other municipal bond traders.

Spieler’s arrival marks the opening of First Empire’s Chicago office and continues the firm’s plan to grow its municipal bond capabilities.

In June, the firm expanded its municipal bond trading desk, opening offices in San Francisco and Chatham, New Jersey. The firm plans to build out the offices as part of its national growth strategy. Currently, the firm also has branches in Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee and Virginia.

“In expanding our product offerings to include new issue municipal bonds we are giving our clients more choices in managing their investment portfolio,” said Stephanie Rella, chief operating officer at First Empire Securities.
