Fitch rates Maybank notes A-

Fitch Ratings said it assigned a rating of A- to Malayan Banking Bhd.'s (Maybank) ¥130 million 4% senior fixed-rate notes due July 2019.

The notes were issued under the bank's $15 billion multi-currency medium-term note program.

The notes are rated at the same level as Maybank's A- long-term issuer default rating as they constitute direct, unconditional, unsubordinated and unsecured obligations and rank equally with all of the bank’s other unsecured and unsubordinated obligations, Fitch said.

The ratings on the notes are sensitive to changes in Maybank's long-term issuer default rating, which currently has a negative outlook, the agency added.

The bank also has a short-term issuer default rating of F2, long-term local-currency issuer default rating of A- and viability rating of A-.
