Asia Index announces plans to launch S&P BSE AllCap index family

By Tali Rackner

Norfolk, Va., March 10 – Asia Index Pvt. Ltd. plans to launch the S&P BSE AllCap index family in the second quarter of 2015, according to a press release.

The index will be divided into five size-based indexes including LargeCap, MidCap and SmallCap using total market capitalization and 10 sector-based sub-indexes. Certain existing indexes will be replaced by the new indexes.

The S&P BSE AllCap index is a broad index covering more than 95% of the total market capitalization and comprises more than 700 stocks that are listed on the BSE, the release said. The index will be used for broad market measurement, while the five size-based indexes and 10 sector indexes will offer investors a tool to analyze market movements across size or sectors.

“The Indian equity market has been one of the top performers among emerging economies. Hence, there is a strong need to effectively measure its performance across sectors and market segments that can truly represent its breadth and depth,” Asia Index chief executive officer Alka Banerjee said in the release.

Asia Index is a joint venture between S&P Dow Jones Indices and BSE Ltd.
