Watershed Capital name change to Big Path Capital reflects ‘dynamic state of impact investing’

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Nov. 10 – Watershed Capital Group announced a name change to Big Path Capital. The new name represents “both the global scope of the company’s reach and the dynamic state of the impact investing sector,” according to a company news release.

“Big Path Capital is harnessing the opportunity being recognized by an expansive number of companies, funds and investors that impact investing is a contender in the financial markets,” said co-founder and managing partner Shawn Lesser.

Impact investing is a rapidly growing investment strategy that seeks to generate positive financial, environmental and social returns, the news release stated.

According to J.P. Morgan, it is estimated that global impact investments exceeded $50 billion in 2010 and invested capital in the impact investing market could reach $400 billion to $1 trillion by 2020.

Watershed was formed in 2007 with the vision of advancing an economy built on natural, social and financial capital, according to co-founder and managing partner Michael Whelchel.

“Today this new path, conducting business for profit and impact, represents the largest investment opportunity of our era,” Whelchel said.

Big Path Capital is a boutique consulting firm assisting impact and sustainable companies and funds in raising capital, executing mergers, acquisitions and transactions and evaluating strategic financial options. The company is based in New York.
