BankUnited Financial files debt securities, stock shelf

Seattle, April 18 - BankUnited Financial Corp. filed an automatic shelf registration in an S-3ASR filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday.

Covered by the shelf are debt securities, class A common stock, securities purchase contracts and securities purchase units. Debt securities may be structured as convertibles.

Proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes, which may include developing new branch offices and operations centers, acquisitions, repurchasing or redeeming outstanding debt, investing in loans and mortgage-backed or other securities and funding working capital needs.

BankUnited Financial is the holding company for BankUnited, a consumer bank based in Coral Gables, Fla.
