Astana case representative says Dec. 9 status conference is not needed

By Kali Hays

New York, Dec. 2 – The foreign representative of JSC Astana-Finance, Marat Duysenbekovich Aitenov, asked that the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York adjourn a case status conference set for Dec. 9, according to a Tuesday motion.

As previously reported, the Specialised Inter-District Economic Court of Almaty allowed a six-month extension of the company’s deadline to complete its amended restructuring plan to May 31, 2015.

The U.S. court also approved the extension on Nov. 17, and considering the extension has been allowed, the foreign representative asked that the status conference be rescheduled to a date after the new deadline saying, “There is no need to hold a status conference at this time.”

“Astana-Finance continues to work with its creditors, including those in the United States and with the government of Kazakhstan to meet the conditions precedent to the completion of the restructuring and is hopeful that it will be able to accomplish this prior to the current deadline,” the motion stated.

Astana Finance is a financial institution based in Astana, Kazakhstan. Its Chapter 15 case was filed on April 25, 2014 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York under case number 14-11217.
