By Elaine Rigoli

Tampa, Fla., Sept. 18 - Wockhardt Ltd. has signed a memorandum of understanding with Maharashtra Industrial Development Corp. to establish a special economic zone in Aurangabad, India.

The Wockhardt Group will establish a pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing and research facility at the special economic zone, which will be 107 hectares and will employ an estimated 2,000 people.

Over half of the company's sales now come from Europe and the United States, but India continues to be the group's manufacturing and research base, according to a news release.

The company is a technology-driven pharmaceutical and biotechnology company.
