Fitch rates Whirlpool notes BBB

Fitch Ratings said it assigned a BBB rating to the following notes issued by Whirlpool Corp.: $500 million 5.5% senior unsecured notes due March 1, 2013.

Funds will be used for corporate purposes including repaying commercial paper borrowing, the agency said.

Fitch noted that it currently rates Whirlpool and Maytag Corp. as follows: Whirlpool with issuer default rating BBB, short-term issuer default rating at F2, commercial paper at F2, bank revolving credit facility BBB (Whirlpool, Whirlpool Europe BV and Whirlpool Finance BV as Borrowers) and senior unsecured notes BBB; and Maytag with issuer default rating at BBB and senior unsecured notes at BBB.

The outlook is stable.

The agency said that the ratings reflect Whirlpool's position as the world's largest appliance manufacturer, holding the No. 1 market position in many regions in which it operates.
