S&P ups Westar outlook to positive

Standard & Poor's said it revised its outlook on Westar Energy Inc. and its subsidiary Kansas Gas & Electric Co. to positive from stable.

The agency said it also affirmed the BBB- corporate credit rating and long-term ratings on the.

The outlook revision reflects the gradual improvement of the company's regulatory risk and the expected strengthening of the company's financial measures due to base rate increases and the recovery of environmental projects through an environmental rider, S&P noted.

However, in the near term, the company's financial measures may weaken due to the economic recession, the agency said.
