Wells Fargo's Small Cap Opportunities Fund redefines 'small cap'

By Toni Weeks

San Diego, Feb. 9 - The Wells Fargo Advantage Small Cap Opportunities Fund has amended its definition of small-capitalization companies, according to a 497 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Effective April 1, the fund will consider small-cap companies to be those with market caps within the range of the Russell 2500 Index at the time of purchase. As of June 30, 2011, that cap range was $76.4 million to $7.4 billion. The range is expected to change frequently.

Previously, the fund considered small cap companies to be those with market capitalizations of $3 billion or less.

San Francisco-based Wells Fargo Funds Management, LLC is the investment adviser to the fund.
