Valley National files automatic shelf

New York, Feb. 27 - Valley National Bancorp registered to sell common stock, preferred stock, warrants and units, according to an S-3ASR with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Proceeds will go toward general corporate purposes, including redemption of the company's series A fixed-rate cumulative perpetual preferred stock, refinancing, reduction or repayment of debt, investments in Valley National Bank and its other subsidiaries as regulatory capital, financing of possible acquisitions, expansion of the business and investments at the holding company level.

Valley National is a Wayne, N.J.-based regional bank holding company.
