S&P: Vail Resorts unaffected

Standard & Poor's said that the effort under way by Vail Resorts Inc. (BB-/stable) to acquire The Canyons ski resort in Utah from American Skiing Co. currently does not affect the corporate credit rating or outlook on Vail Resorts.

According to S&P, Vail Resorts had been in negotiations to purchase The Canyons prior to American Skiing's announcement that it had entered into a July 15 agreement with Talisker Corp. to sell The Canyons for $100 million.

In response to the Talisker offer, Vail Resorts has offered American Skiing $110 million, the agency noted, adding that if Vail Resorts succeeds in its bid for The Canyons, the property would increase the company's revenue and geographical diversity and its market share of North American skiing.
