US Airways asks court to extend exclusivity

By Jeff Pines

Washington, Dec. 31 - US Airways Inc. asked the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia Thursday to extend its exclusive right to file a reorganization plan to March 31 from Jan. 10 and its exclusive right to solicit votes to June 30 from March 11.

US Airways said it plans to file its reorganization plan and disclosure statement on or before Feb. 15 and Feb. 18, respectively.

The Arlington, Va.-based airline wants the extensions just in case it needs to make changes to its plans and to get input from major stakeholders before it submits the plan.

The company said it plans to emerge from bankruptcy by June 30, 2005.

US Airways filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 12. Its Chapter 11 case number is 04-13819.
