US Airways says IAM employees back cost savings

New York, Jan. 21 - US Airways said that all three of its employee groups represented by the International Association of Machinists ratified cost-savings agreements.

The agreements will result in $353 million of savings a year over five years.

Affected are 8,800 employees, including mechanics, utility, fleet service, stock clerks and maintenance training specialist workers.

Mechanics and related employees gave 61% support, fleet service employees 62% and maintenance training specialists 97%.

US Airways said it has now obtained cost-savings agreements with all of its labor groups, including non-unionized employees, totaling over $1.1 billion annually.

The Arlington, Va., airline filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 12, 2004 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Its Chapter 11 case number is 04-13819.
