US Airways obtains extension to exclusive periods to file plan, solicit votes

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, June 24 - US Airways, Inc. obtained an extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Thursday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

The exclusive period to file a plan was extended to June 30 from May 31 and to solicit votes to Oct. 31 from Aug. 31.

US Airways said it is working on formulating a plan that incorporates the merger with America West Holdings Corp. as the primary basis for its emergence from bankruptcy.

The company also cited the size and complexity of its bankruptcy case as grounds for an extension.

The Arlington, Va.-based carrier filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 12, 2004. Its Chapter 11 case number is 04-13819.
