US Airways, America West confirm talks

New York, April 22 - US Airways Group Inc. and America West Airlines confirmed they are in talks about a potential merger.

Both airlines said they do not intend to make any further announcements until they reach definitive agreement or terminate the talks.

Arlington, Va.-based US Airways filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 12, 2004 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Its Chapter 11 case number is 04-13819. America West is based in Phoenix.
