US Airways asks for more exclusive time

New York, March 22 - US Airways, Inc. requested an extension to its exclusive right to file a plan of reorganization and to solicit acceptances in a filing Monday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

The company asked that its right to file a plan be extended to May 31 from March 31 and to solicit votes to Aug. 31 from June 30.

Under its agreement with General Electric Capital Corp., the airline must file a plan by April 15 and to emerge from Chapter 11 by July 1.

But US Airways said it is seeking the "modest" extension "out of an abundance of caution."

US Airways, an Arlington, Va.-based carrier, filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 12, 2004. Its Chapter 11 case number is 04-13819.
