US Airways Group lends support to AMR exclusivity extension request

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, July 13 - AMR Corp. creditor and "prospective merger partner" US Airways Group Inc. said it supports motion by AMR and its official committee of unsecured creditors (UCC) to extend AMR's exclusive plan of reorganization-filing and solicitation periods, according to a Thursday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

As previously reported, AMR and the committee have asked the court to extend the exclusive filing period through Dec. 28 and the solicitation period through Feb. 28, 2013.

"The joint motion represents a commitment on the part of the debtors and the UCC to consider and review strategic alternatives, including a combination, in order to determine what approach would maximize the value available to stakeholders," US Airways said in the support statement.

"US Airways believes that such commitment, if fully and appropriately implemented, should allow the debtors and the UCC to discharge their respective fiduciary duties to explore all available strategic alternatives."

AMR, the Fort Worth-based parent of American Airlines, filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 29, 2011. Its Chapter 11 case number is 11-15463.
