US Airways names new vice president of restructuring

By Jeff Pines

Washington, Sept. 2 - US Airways Group Inc. said it appointed a former company official to be its vice president of restructuring.

James Schear, who was US Airways' manager of flight operations and director of business planning, will report directly to Bruce Lakefield, US Airways' president and chief executive officer.

Schear will handle the company's organizational re-engineering responsibilities and priorities as identified by the senior management team. Schear also will work with managers, employee task forces, advisers and partners to ensure that the company operates as efficiently as possible, and help in transforming the processes and programs that follow best practices and new industry efficiencies, the company said.

Schear comes to the company from the Federal Aviation Administration's Air Traffic Organization, where he was vice president of safety. He has also served as the Transportation Security Administration's deputy for aviation operations.

Shear retired as a rear admiral in 2000 after serving 37 years in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve.
