Tricom wants to extend exclusive solicitation period to May 1

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Feb. 10 - Tricom SA requested an extension to its exclusive period to solicit votes on its plan of reorganization, according to a Monday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

The company wants to extend its exclusive solicitation period to May 1 from Feb. 28.

According to the motion, Tricom is still in claim treatment negotiations with Bancredit, Bancredito Panama and Banco Leon, and the company believes it is close to finalizing a settlement with one or two of the three disputed claimholders.

The company said it requested the extension in case it is required to or chooses to re-solicit votes on the plan filed in March 2008.

A hearing is scheduled for Feb. 24.

Tricom, a full-service telecommunications provider based in the Dominican Republic, filed for bankruptcy on Feb. 29, 2008. Its Chapter 11 case number is 08-10720.
