Moody's gives Travelers notes A2

Moody's Investors Service said it assigned A2 ratings to roughly $500 million of senior unsecured notes, due 2043, to be issued by Travelers Cos., Inc.

The debt is being issued pursuant to the company's shelf registration. Net proceeds from the offering are expected to be used for general corporate purposes and to fund a portion of the purchase price of Travelers' acquisition of Dominion of Canada General Insurance Co.

The outlook is stable.

According to Moody's, Travelers' ratings are based on the group's leading position in many commercial, personal and specialty insurance lines of business, its strong track record of core profitability and internal capital generation, its high quality investment portfolio and strong internal liquidity and its solid risk-adjusted capitalization.
