Gamco, Gabelli buy additional shares of Topps prior to merger vote

Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 19 - Investors led by Gamco Asset Management Inc. and Gabelli Funds, LLC bought an additional 526,900 shares of the Topps Co., Inc. on Sept. 18, according to a schedule 13D filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The shares were priced from $9.07 to $9.24 each.

With the latest purchase, the reporting persons own 3,291,867 shares, or 8.49%, of the New York-based sports cards and entertainment products company.

On Sept. 18, Gamco and Gabelli reported the purchase of 280,000 shares between July 16 and Sept. 13 priced from $9.19 to $10.24 each for a 7.14% stake in the company.

It was previously reported that Gamco and Gabelli planned to vote in favor of the company's proposed merger with the Tornante Co., LLC and Madison Dearborn Partners, LLC at the special meeting scheduled for Wednesday. Shareholders approved the merger on that date, the filing stated.
