Leerink begins Thermo coverage at outperform

Thermo Electron Corp. coverage was initiated by Leerink Swann & Co. analyst John Sullivan at an outperform rating based on the company's global reach, new products, strong management and execution, which should drive expanding market share and operating margins. Shares of the Waltham, Mass., maker of scientific instruments were down 47 cents, or 1.48%, at $31.18 on volume of 1,191,800 shares versus the three-month running average of 852,780 shares.
