By Devika Patel

Knoxville, Tenn., Feb. 26 - Chiquita Brands International Inc. repurchased $136 million of its senior notes in the open market from 2008 through February, according to a 10-K filed Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

From September through February, the company bought back $45 million of the notes with operating cash flow. In 2008, it repurchased $91 million of the notes at a discount in the open market, resulting in a gain of approximately $14 million on debt extinguishment.

Chiquita is a Cincinnati-based fruit and vegetable importer and processor.
