Nextel calls 6% convertibles

New York, May 6 - Nextel Communications Inc. said it will redeem its 6% convertible senior notes due 2011 on June 7.

The Reston, Va., mobile phone company will pay 104% of par plus accrued interest.

Nextel currently has $608 million principal amount of the convertibles outstanding.

Up to the close of business on June 4 holders can convert the notes into class A common stock at a price of $23.8375. Nextel stock was at $24.70 in mid-afternoon trading Thursday.
