Templeton Asian Growth Fund OKs 5% investment in participatory notes

By Toni Weeks

San Diego, Nov. 1 - Templeton Asian Growth Fund may now invest up to 5% of its net assets in participatory notes, according to a 497 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Participatory notes are an instrument used by investors to obtain exposure to an equity investment, including common stocks and warrants, in a local market where direct ownership is not permitted. The note is intended to reflect the performance of the underlying equity securities on a one-to-one basis so that investors will neither gain more nor lose more than they would have if investing directly in the underlying securities.

The fund is managed by San Mateo, Calif.-based Templeton Asset Management Ltd.
