Talvivaara Mining COO Cooper leaving; management changes announced

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, March 7 - Talvivaara Mining Co. plc announced changes in company management in a Friday news release.

Specifically, Talvivaara said chief operating officer Darin Cooper is leaving the company. Chief technology officer Pertti Pekkala will assume interim responsibility for the Sotkamo mine's operations until a new COO has been appointed.

In addition, the company said its technical executive committee, consisting of chief executive officer Pekka Pera, chief corporate development officer Lassi Lammassaari and Pekkala and environmental manager Veli-Matti Hilla as a newly appointed member, will take an increasingly active role in the management of the operations at the Sotkamo mine.

Non-executive director Kirsi Sormunen announced her resignation from Talvivaara's board of directors, according to the release.

The company said its annual general meeting, provisionally scheduled for May 8, will decide the size and composition of the board.

Helsinki-based Talvivaara Mining is a base metals producer with its primary focus on nickel and zinc.
