Sun-Times Media requests third exclusivity extension to file plan

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Feb. 25 - Sun-Times Media Group, Inc. requested a 120-day extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Wednesday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The company wants to extend its plan-filing period to June 24 from Feb. 24 and the solicitation period to Aug. 27, 2010 from April 29.

A hearing has been scheduled for March 25.

In the filing Sun-Times said it needs additional time to, among other things, distribute the litigation escrow fund, resolve administrative claims against the estate and resolve any post-closing matters with the buyer of the debtors' assets.

Previously the court extended the company's exclusive plan-filing period to Feb. 24 from Oct. 27 and the solicitation period to April 29 from Dec. 30.

Sun-Times Media is a Chicago newspaper company that filed for bankruptcy on March 31, 2009. Its Chapter 11 case number is 09-11092.
