John Hancock plans launch of Strategic Equity Allocation Fund

By Toni Weeks

San Diego, Jan. 11 - John Hancock Funds II said it is planning a new fund, the Strategic Equity Allocation Fund, according to an N-1A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The fund will seek capital appreciation by investing, under normal market conditions, at least 80% of its net assets in U.S. and foreign equity securities of any market capitalization, including futures on indexes of equity securities. The fund may invest in both developed and emerging markets and will vary both its types of securities and its markets in response to changing economic trends.

The portfolio management team will consist of Bob Boyda, Carson Jen, Steve Medina and Narayan Ramani.

The fund will not assess shareholder fees. Management fees will be 0.68%, which consists of 0.65% for a management fee and 0.03% for other fees.

Boston-based John Hancock Investment Management Services, LLC will be the fund's investment adviser.
