Stem Cell Therapy seeks patent for method to treat severe burns, scar tissue

By Elaine Rigoli

Tampa, Fla., June 30 - Stem Cell Therapy International, Inc. said Friday that it has filed a provisional patent application at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to cover the composition and methods of treating severe burns with stem cells.

The company said the subject of this patent application is the first of its kind to address the use of third-degree burns with human stem cells.

It uses a combination of stem cells from different sources, some of which have been cryopreserved using a methodology developed in the Ukraine.

"Importantly, the techniques that we have developed to treat burn patients can be used in cosmetic applications such as the prevention of scar tissue after surgery and for skin rejuvenation therapy. Therefore, we envision a huge demand for this process from all over the world. It is our plan to capitalize on our invention by licensing the process to plastic surgeons, hospitals and clinics as well as burn centers," chairman and chief executive officer Calvin Cao said in a news release.

Stem Cell Therapy, based in Tampa, Fla., is engaged in the field of research and development of regenerative medicine.
