AvalonBay files automatic shelf registration

Knoxville, Tenn., March 2 - AvalonBay Communities, Inc. filed an automatic shelf registration in an S-3-ASR filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The registration covers debt securities, common stock and preferred stock.

The securities may be structured as convertibles.

Proceeds will be used for working capital and capital expenditures.

AvalonBay is an Alexandria, Va.-based equity real estate investment trust focused on apartment communities in high barrier-to-entry markets.
