Sound Shore Medical gets second exclusivity extension to file plan

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Feb. 3 - Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester was granted its request for a second extension of its exclusive periods for filing and soliciting votes on a plan of reorganization, according to a Monday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

The court extended Sound Shore's exclusive filing period to April 24 from Jan. 24 and the solicitation period to June 23 from March 25.

As previously reported, Sound Shore said its focus is on "addressing and resolving emergent matters" arising from the sale of its assets.

Filing a plan of reorganization would be premature, according to the motion, as the company needs more time to effectively negotiate and file a plan.

On Dec. 12, the medical center's exclusive filing period was extended to Jan. 24 from Sept. 26 and the solicitation period to March 25 from Nov. 25.

Sound Shore, a New Rochelle, N.Y., medical center, filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on May 29, 2013. Its Chapter 11 case number is 13-22840.
