S&P ups Austin, Texas, schools to AA+, gives AAA enhanced rating to G.O.s

Standard & Poor's said it raised its rating on Austin Independent School District, Texas' $740 million outstanding general obligation debt to AA+ from AA and affirmed its AAA enhanced rating on the district's $100 million series 2008 unlimited-tax G.O. refunding bonds. The outlook is stable.

The enhanced rating is based on the guarantee of the Texas Permanent School Fund program.

The upgrade reflects continued economic growth of the district's tax base and solid financial management that has allowed the district to accumulate strong reserve levels, S&P said.
