Shearman & Sterling hires Thompson for structured finance practice

Columbus, Ohio, June 3 – Shearman & Sterling has hired Charles Thompson as counsel for the structured finance practice in its New York office, the firm announced in a press release.

Thompson focuses on corporate and financial matters, with a particular emphasis on structured finance and capital markets derivatives products, according to the press release.

He joins the firm from Cleary Gottlieb and previously worked as primary coverage lawyer for Morgan Stanley’s structured products group. Thompson has represented issuers, lenders, underwriters, bond insurers, investors and derivative counterparties in connection with cash and synthetic collateralized loan obligations, structured note programs, securitizations and credit-linked securities, the press release said.

He also advises clients on regulatory and compliance issues relating to Dodd-Frank, particularly regarding the derivatives legislation in Title VII, the firm said.
