Rural/Metro requests exclusivity extension with plan hearing looming

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Nov. 27 - Rural/Metro Corp. requested an extension of its exclusive periods for filing and soliciting votes on a plan of reorganization, according to a Wednesday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The company wants to extend its exclusive filing period through Jan. 31 from Dec. 2 and the solicitation period through April 1 through Jan. 31.

According to the motion, a hearing to consider Rural/Metro's proposed plan is scheduled for Dec. 17.

Since its exclusive filing period is currently scheduled to expire on Dec. 2, the company said it requested the extension "in an abundance of caution" to preserve exclusivity through confirmation and the plan effective date to maximize the likelihood of emergence in the near term with minimum distractions.

A hearing is scheduled for Jan. 8.

Rural/Metro, a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based provider of emergency and non-emergency ambulance services and private fire protection, filed for bankruptcy on Aug. 5. The Chapter 11 case number is 13-11952.
