Dow Chemical considers divesting portion of business

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 10 - Dow Chemical Co., with the assistance of JPMorgan, is considering divestiture options for its Clear Lake Operations acrylic acid and esters and its UCAR Emulsion Systems specialty latex business in North America.

A company news release said Dow Chemical is exploring strategic options for the business as a means to "proactively mitigate potential anti-trust issues" in connection with its acquisition of Rohm and Haas Co.

The business includes locations in Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, California and North Carolina.

Dow Chemical, a diversified chemical company based in Midland, Mich., agreed in July to acquire Rohm & Haas, a Philadelphia-based specialty materials company, for $78 per share in cash, or approximately $15.2 billion.
