Bill Gates' Cascade Investment buys more Republic Services shares

Tacoma, Wash., Jan. 29 - Republic Services, Inc. investor Cascade Investment, LLC purchased 3,909,638 shares of the company's common stock between Jan. 13 and Jan. 26 for a total of $448.65 million.

The weighted average price per share for the purchases ranged from $22.7361 to $25.9263, according to a schedule 13D/A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Through Cascade Investment and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust, Bill and Melinda Gates own 42,543,574 shares, or 11.2%, of Republic Services.

Before the latest purchases, the investors owned 10.2% of the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., company.

Republic Services provides environmental services, including solid waste collection, transfer and disposal services.
