S&P: Four health care firms unaffected
Standard & Poor's said the ratings and outlook on three dialysis services providers and one laboratory services provider would not be affected after the companies received subpoenas from the U.S. Department of Justice for information related to vitamin D therapies and parathyroid hormone levels testing.
The subpoenaed companies include DaVita Inc. (BB/stable/--), Fresenius Medical Care AG (BB+/stable/--) and Renal Care Group Inc. (BB-/positive/--), as well as Quest Diagnostics Inc. (BBB/positive/--).
The motives of the justice department's subpoena are unclear at this time. However, S&P said if the issue was related to Medicare reimbursement, Vitamin D therapies and PTH testing, both reimbursed by the program, contribute a relatively small percentage of these companies' total revenues.
