S&P: Reliant Energy unaffected

Standard & Poor's said Reliant Energy Inc.'s (B+/stable/B-2) liquidity should remain adequate despite potential effects of Hurricane Rita, including an extended outage or sustained high natural gas prices caused by the storm.

Therefore, the agency said these events should not affect the rating on the company.

Depending on the magnitude of the hurricane's effect and the movement in natural gas prices, the rating could be lowered at a later date, S&P noted.
