Reliance Energy asks for 60-day exclusivity extension

By Reshmi Basu

New York, Dec. 19 - Reliant Energy Inc. requested a 60-day extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Wednesday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The company wants to extend its exclusive plan-filing period to Feb. 19 and the solicitation period to April 21.

According to the motion, Reliant Energy said it needs more time to complete the paperwork relating to the sale of its assets.

A hearing is scheduled for Jan. 11.

Reliant, a Houston-based provider of electricity and energy services to retail and wholesale customers, filed for bankruptcy on Aug. 20. Its Chapter 11 case number is 07-11160.
