Reader's Digest eyes precautionary two-month exclusivity extension

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Nov. 23 - Reader's Digest Association, Inc. requested an extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Sunday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

The company wants to extend its exclusive plan-filing period to Feb. 22 from Dec. 22 and the solicitation period to April 22 from Feb. 20.

Although it does not expect to need to use the extension period, Reader's Digest said it is requesting the extension in case it needs more time to obtain confirmation of its plan of reorganization.

A hearing is scheduled for Dec. 7.

Reader's Digest, a Pleasantville, N.Y., publishing company, filed for bankruptcy on Aug. 24. Its Chapter 11 case number is 09-23529.
