Outlook revisions upbeat on prospects for high-yield credit quality, Moody's says
New York, Aug. 4 - Outlook revisions in July paint a "fairly upbeat" picture for further improvement in speculative-grade credit quality over the next 12 to 18 months, according to Moody's Investors Service.
The month saw 15 favorable outlook changes for high-yield issuers, triple the number of unfavorable changes.
"This is a very strong start to the third quarter for speculative-grade outlook revisions," commented Moody's analyst Jessica Walker.
She noted that no quarter has shown such a wide margin since Moody's began tracking the data in the third quarter of 2000.
Of the changes, seven were to a positive outlook, Walker added.
She noted that special events generally contributed to a limited number of speculative-grade outlook revisions.
Mergers were involved in two favorable and two unfavorable changes and an equity buyback announcement led to a third unfavorable outlook change. Two favorable revisions also followed in the wake of a rating change.
