Fitch: Prudential notes BBB+

Fitch Ratings said it assigned a BBB+ rating to Prudential Financial, Inc.'s issuances of $350 million of 5.10% senior notes due in 2043, $350 million of 2.30% senior notes due in 2018 and $350 million of floating-rate notes due in 2018.

The outlook is stable.

The ratings are equivalent to the ratings assigned to the company's existing senior notes and reflect standard notching based on the agency's rating criteria, Fitch said.

The proceeds will be used in part to fund debt maturing in early 2014 and for general corporate purposes. Fitch said it anticipates that the new debt will increase the financial leverage ratio more than 35%, but expects it to be a temporary increase.

The ratings reflect the company's recent financial performance and balance sheet fundamentals, which remain consistent with expectations, the agency said.
