Power3 files blood serum protein biomarker patent

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 20 - Power3 Medical Products, Inc. filed for a utility patent encompassing multiple blood serum protein biomarkers used to identify patients with Parkinson's disease and ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).

"The biomarkers discovered by Power3 and described in the application for a utility patent will form the basis of a blood test for early detection and diagnosis, as well as be used to monitor the overall disease process in patients," chairman and chief executive officer Steven B. Rash said in a company news release.

In addition, Power3 said it can license the intellectual property to pharmaceutical companies and diagnostic test manufacturers for the development of commercial applications.

This latest patent application adds to the Houston proteomics company's portfolio of intellectual properties, which currently includes 18 patents pending.
