Peru's Central Reserve Bank holds steady on interest rate at 4¼%

By Susanna Moon

Chicago, June 10 - The board of Peru's Central Reserve Bank said it decided to maintain the monetary policy reference rate at 4¼% after a series of rate hikes beginning in February.

The stance considers the moderation of increases in consumer prices and in some indicators of activity, according to a bank press release.

Annual inflation was 3.07% after inflation in May showed a negative rate of 0.02%. Core inflation was 0.34%. Inflation excluding food and energy was 0.12% with an accumulated annual rate of 1.8%.

The bank raised the reference rate by 25 basis points to 3½% in February, to 4% in March and to 4¼% in April.
